A Weekend in Blue Ridge: The Best Things to Do Near Our Cabins

Aerial View Small Mountain Town Surrounded by Forested Ridges

Blue Ridge is just far enough away.

Ninety miles from Atlanta. About ninety minutes on a good day. Far enough from the city to feel like a true getaway, while still offering the connectivity guests need throughout their stay.

Our cabins sit in the middle of it — tucked beneath Georgia pines, with the town close enough to reach when you want it and quiet enough to forget when you do not. Here is what we keep within easy reach.

Get out on the trails.

The Aska Adventure Area is our first recommendation for guests who packed the boots. A trail network woven through the Chattahoochee National Forest, accessible via Aska Road just east of town, with loops ranging from a light morning walk to a full day following the Toccoa River through the trees. No entry fee. No crowds on a weekday. Bring water and leave early.

Take the slow train.

The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway runs a 26-mile round trip from Depot Street, following the Toccoa River north to the twin border towns of McCaysville and Copperhill — one in Georgia, one in Tennessee, one street apart. The whole journey takes about three hours. Most guests say it was their favourite afternoon of the trip. Go in fall and the decision makes itself.

Stop at the orchard.

Mercier Orchards has been farming this land since 1943. Three hundred and fifty acres, a bakery, a cidery, a winery, and a farm market worth browsing without a list. The fried apple pies alone earn the detour. Open year-round, best when the trees are heavy.

Eat somewhere that earned it.

For something casual after a long afternoon outside, Angry Hops Brewing on East Main pours rotating craft pints on a patio that catches the evening well. Blue Ridge also offers a variety of local restaurants, cafés, and breweries, making it easy to find something that suits your mood after a day of exploring.

There is enough here to fill a long weekend without once feeling like you are working through a list. That is the Blue Ridge way.
